Move from state to state due to a new job or base transfer, or closer to base. The cost to move you, your family, and the cost to move your personal goods, may be deductible on your State Return - Federal Return ONLY for Active Military Members if you meet the Time & Distance Test.

If you transfer bases & relocate just your "Crash Pad" and not your primary home, the costs to do so, are not a personal deduction but a possible Business Deduction. This crash pad move will only apply to those State Returns that allow employee expenses. List expenses here & we will file them on the correct form if required - See "Commuter"

DISTANCE TEST

New workplace must be at least 50 miles further, than your old commute to work.
You pass the distance test if line 3 is more than 50 miles.

  1. Number of miles from old home to new base __________
  2. Number of miles from old home to old base __________
  3. Subtract Line 2 from Line 1

TIME TEST

After you move, you must work F/T for the next 39 weeks during the next 12 months. You pass the time test, if you expect to stay at your new base at least 9 months.
